Children’s & Youth Ministry

This is an area of our work which we take very seriously and is still developing.

In Church

In St Mary’s on Wednesday afternoons from 1pm until 3pm during school term-time. Toys, games and activities, tea and squash. £1 per family.

Parent & Toddler Group

Junior Youth Group. Bart’s K Zone

Tiny Tots

In St Bart’s on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 until 11.45am. Anyone pre-school, with a grown up carer. We light the candles, sing some songs, play musical instruments, hear a very short Bible story and say a prayer. Then we get the toys out, and carers have a coffee whilst the little ones have squash and biscuits.

On Thursdays during Term time, from 5.30pm to 6.45pm in St Bart’s, for anyone in school years 4, 5, 6 and 7. The evening includes all sorts of games - table football, air hockey, table tennis and so on, as well as quieter board games for the less energetic. Then we have a “God Slot”, using the Urban Saints Energise material which includes all sorts of games and activities as well as thought provoking discussion material. Of course there will be the Tuck Shop available as well. Neil Chisnall, our Youth Worker, together with his team of helpers runs this club. £1 per child per evening. Neil can be reached on 07921145390

Senior Youth Group. Top of the Hill

On Thursdays during Term time, from 7.15pm until 8.45pm, in St Bart’s, for anyone in school year 8 or above. A similar format to Bart’s K Zone, but with the added excitement of occasional trips to Laser World or Ten Pin Bowling., as well as special organised evenings learning, for example, Kit Drumming, Circus Skills, Cookery, or Electric guitar. £1 per young person per evening. Once again, speak to Neil, who is ably assisted by Marcus Bodey and the team!

We also arrange:

Children‘s Workshops at special times, like Advent or Harvest. These are for all children, and are held in St Bart’s Church. All sorts of craft activities, and lots of things to take home afterwards, as well as drama, music and worship. Attendances recently have been 80+.

And our most recent venture is:

Praise Parties. These take place on occasional Saturday afternoon at 5.30pm and are for all children and their families. We serve Pepsi and Pringles - (well, crisps and fizzy drinks or squash) - to the children and a glass of something more encouraging to their parents, and offer a wonderful entertainment with Christian teaching. Our first Praise Party in September 2005 was led by Capt. Graham Nunn of the Church Army, who brought plates for us to spin, indoor Frisbees and boomerangs, modelling balloons, and an excellent Magic Show, as well as lots of action songs. Over 110 people enjoyed the hour and a half of the Party.

During the Summer Holidays:

Bart’s Olympic Challenge; a fun afternoon, commencing with a picnic, then all sorts of sports, games, Activities, Craft and God Slots, concluding with a family BBQ at 6pm. Neil (who is really a busy boy) is your contact point once again.
